Students will invest effort in a task only if they BELIEVE that they can achieve something.

They may not be able to perform the task YET, but they BELIEVE they can and they will. Do you make them believe?

  1. I think this comes down to a couple of interesting points:
    - making things relevant for the kids in our class = making them believe that what they learn in English, math, science, etc. WILL have a real-world application for them
    - teachers need to demonstrate to their students that they have high expectations of them - telling every student "Okay, this is a good start - I think you have more to tell / show me"

  2. it is important to empower the students. we must also remind them that it is OK to have challenges and set backs. We all fall when learning to walk and ride a bike, and yet kept going until we achieved success.
